OM forklift trucks helpfull in the Amercan´s Cup

Due to their engagement in sponsoring mechanic sport Ducati Corse and the Italian based forklift trucks producer company on the behalf of its Spanish subsidiary OM Ibercarretillas España with headquarters in Quart de Poblet (Valencia) took part in the most important sailing event in the world, The America’s Cup as official supplier of the Swedish team Victory Challenge.
The first sailing boat constructed by Victory Challenge for the America’s Cup was the Örn (SWE 63). During spring 2005 some modifications have been made accordingly to the new regulations applied for the 32nd America’s Cup, carrying out the last launching in Valencia in March 2006.
During that time some adjustments have been made to start the training. The new version offers much more space to the sailing boat, a smoother boat with a deeper hull and the same stability as before. The result was a smoother and more rapid boat, „turbo powered“ by the 32nd America´s Cup.
For all the works made on the platform, the Victory Challenge team benefited from the help of the OM forklift truck XD25. This machine, especially designed for the event guaranteed the team with ideal prestations thanks to its ergonomic and easy- to-handle concept.
The operators of the Swedish team put all their confidence in that machine with a loading capacity of 2500kg with total security and reliability. For its maintenance, OM Ibercarretillas España provided for mechanics and a hotline for immediate answers so that the machine cannot be paralysed at any moment. That machine is especially advised for opened air working areas and on mountainous grounds, with a great volume of loading and unloading operations. The main users are big logistic operators, construction companies and in general, companies which have to deal with considerable loads. The operator cab is completely suspended. The F.S.C. – Full Suspended Cab and the comfortable MSG20 seat reduces vibrations to a minimum, and together with the acoustic insulation system, reduces noise level. There is another version with a covered operator cab and central heating system for low temperature seasons. A new 3,3 liters, 46,5 Kw DEUTZ engine especially designed in working with heavy loads and on continuous trajectories provide the optimum amount of power with low fuel consumption and consequently lower emissions.
The chassis is very compact and the optimized pofiles of the mast allow a high residual load capacity.
The „inching „ technology allows a greater precision in manoeuvres.
The GRAZIANO TLX30 new transmission with 310mm AKEBONO breaking raises the quality and reliability of the traction group of the new forklift truck. Only 4 months after the last time an America´s Cup boat was on water, the race started again after the winter rest. The activities on the platform increased since the mid of february. It has been question of the modification of the Orm as well as of the Örn (SWE 63), and as for training with SM40 that the team has put at his disposal for the match race. It is the same types of boats as the ones that are used for the World Matching Tour.
The other regattas (act 1 and 11) took place in Valencia in May, before the Louis Vuiton Cup, on the match race model (two boats competing between them) and fleet race (all the boats compete in the same time) respectively. Just 22 days after the magnificent outcome of the 32nd America’s Cup, with Alinghi’s victory in Valencia, the Swiss Defender led by Ernesto Bertarelli, together with the Société Nautique de Genève and ACM, have made public most of the details for the 33rd edition of the oldest trophy in the world of sport.
Following a new agreement with the Spanish state, the Valencia Regional Government and the Valencia Municipality, the Host City for the 33rd America’s Cup will be Valencia. The event will take place in 2009, between May and July, with two pre-regattas to be held in 2008. One of them will be in Valencia in July and the other one in another European country in the autumn. They will be raced on the existing America’s Cup Class (Version 5) boats.
